Nike Move To Zero

Nikes belief in sustainability and creating a better world, rings true to one for their first Ad campaigns in 1977: “There is no finish line.” Nike always believes that the best is yet to come, and Nike continues to reduce their impact on the planet by building a ‘circular future’ through innovation.

Creating products that last longer and are recyclable at the end of use is part of Nikes circular design. Especially with sportswear constantly refashioning and being innovated on, Nike want to create products that do more, with less. Recently the Nike Cosmic Unity was announced, Nike’s first performance shoe under it’s Move to Zero initiative. The shoe is made with at least 25% recycled content by weight - designed for basketball players who love the sport and who believe in its positive impact on the world.

Although this is the first time we’ve seen a performance shoe under the Move to Zero initiative, it is not the first for a Nike sneaker. This time last year, Nike gave a sneak preview of the Space Hippie collection at the 2020 Nike Forum event. This shoe is constructed from transformed scrap material from factory floors that would normally go to waste. Each detail of the Space Hippie was chosen with environmental impact in mind. The product has a purpose but still doesn’t veer from Nikes sleek design and has set a new benchmark for responsible design.

More recently Nike have introduced sustainability into the Spring Summer ACG collection. A jacket made from 100% recycled polyester; A Rope De Dope skirt multiple functions; and  Mazama Vest made from 100% recycled polyester. Keep a look out on the Nike website for the sustainable materials icon the shopping.
